 An STRSEA Outreach Event hosted by President Eric Sacks was held Thursday, December 10 at the Abita Springs Park 1884 Pavilion.

Scholarship for 2020 Goes To Pearl River High Graduate

Blaine Bourgeois, a recent graduate of Pearl River High, was awarded the St.Tammany Retired School Employees Association’s Educational Grant for 2020.  He will be attending L.S.U. STRSEA Elects Officers For Next Year

The St. Tammany Retired School Employees Association (STRSEA) met on Thursday, March 12, at the Treen Instructional Technology Center in Mandeville.  The president of the Louisiana's AARP, Bobby Savoie shared information on fraud and scam prevention.

The retired teachers group voted for a slate of new officers for the upcoming new year 2020/2021. President Eric Sacks will serve another year, Mike Winkler was elected as President-Elect, Lyn Monteleone will remain First Vice President (for membership), Cheryl Beaver will serve as Second Vice President (for programs), Jeanne Schmidt will serve as Secretary and Ron Caruso will remain Treasurer. The new officers will be installed during ceremonies at the group's May 14 meeting. 

Members also brought unwanted magazines to share with others.

Next Meeting on March 12

The St. Tammany Retired School Employees Association (STRSEA) invites all St. Tammany public school retirees to its next meeting on Thursday, March 12, at the Treen Instructional Technology Center in Mandeville.  A social time will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a short business meeting at 10:00 a.m.

The speaker for this meeting is the president of the Louisiana's AARP, Bobby Savoie. He will share a presentation on fraud and scam prevention.  The American Association of Retired Persons Louisiana's goal is arming retired individuals with the tools and resources they need to protect themselves and their pensions. STRSEA President Eric Sacks said Savoie's presentation will be a lively discussion about how to spot and avoid  identity theft and fraud so participants can inform themselves and their family members.

The retired teachers group will also present a slate of new officers for the upcoming new year 2020/2021 and ask for any additional nominations from the group . Then a vote will be taken. The new officers will be installed during ceremonies at the group's May meeting. Members were also reminded to bring any magazines that they no longer need or want to share. There will be an exchange before and after the meeting.

Officers Nominated

Nominations for next year's slate of officers were announced by Bill Brugmann at the January 23rd meeting.

Nominated for re-election was Eric Sacks as President. Lyn Monteleone was nominated for First Vice President, Cheryl Beaver was nominated for Second Vice President, Jeanne Schmidt was nominated for the Secretary position, and Ron Caruso was nominated for re-election as Treasurer. 

The nominee for President Elect was left open for nominees over the next month or so.
Officers will be elected at the group's next meeting and installed at the meeting in May.

Legislative Update!


The meeting on Thursday, January 23rd featured TRSL Executive Director Dana Vicknair and the Executive Director of the LRTA, Rodney Watson. They explained how the teachers' retirement system worked, and how legislative proposals in the future may adversely affect the system.
