Retired Teachers Group To Meet Sept. 12

In its first meeting of the new school year, the St. Tammany Retired School Employees Association will gather at the David C. Treen Instructional Technology Center in Mandeville on Thursday, September 12.
All St. Tammany public school retirees are invited to attend this meeting, which begins with a social get-together at 9:30 a.m. and followed by a short business meeting. The short social meeting allows retirees to visit and catch up with summertime news, while enjoying refreshments with friends.

The group will begin its business meeting at 10 a.m.   Up for discussion will be goals for this year along with some proposed group tour bus excursions.  For the first time ever will be a "book swap," where members can bring and share books from their libraries that they believe other members will enjoy reading.

The STRSEA meets regularly throughout the year to provide opportunities for retirees from the school system to hear about the important issues impacting local and state retirees and to enjoy fun and fellowship with new and former colleagues.  The Treen Technology Center is located at 2024 Livingston Street in Mandeville.

Eric Sacks, the group's president, said, “We hope our retirees will join both the LRTA and our local STRSEA, and we look forward to working collectively to continue to increase our St. Tammany associate and retiree memberships this year. We encourage all public school system retirees to come and join in our association.  We hope to see you on September 12th.”

The STRSEA usually meets throughout the year on the second Thursday of September, November, December, March and May, including an annual Christmas party and spring luncheon.

For a once-only fee of $45, the STRSEA offers a life-time membership that entitles members to vote on association matters, and provides a St. Tammany Advantage Rewards (STAR) card for discounts at participating local businesses and restaurants.

The STRSEA is looking forward to a great year.  For more information, call President Eric Sacks at 985-710-2800.  If present members have a new email address, please send the update to stpretirees@gmail.com.  Retirees may join the STRSEA at any regularly scheduled meeting or may send a check for $45 payable to STRSEA in care of STRSEA at Post Office Box 2992; Covington, Louisiana 70434.
